HELPFUL HINTS WHEN APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

From the Scholarship & Awards Committee:
It’s that time of year when members interested in applying for the Elizabeth Benson or
Daniel H. Pokorny. Scholarships need to start collecting their application information to submit to RID. A few helpful hints when applying:

--Read everything carefully.
--Follow the criteria to the letter.
--Make special note of the deadline for application.
--Proofread your submissions for spelling, grammar and punctuation.

--Where GPA is required, the overall GPA is needed (not individual semesters or
program-specific GPA’s).
--Provide supporting documentation where requested including the appropriate number of copies.
--Use a highlighter or make yourself a checklist to ensure that you have satisfied all of the required information/deadlines.
--Be explicit in your letter of interest.
--Identify from whom the letters of recommendation (e.g, personal letters should be clearly identified as such and address personal characteristics/traits; professional letters should address work history, work ethics, work experience, professional attributes) are coming if it is not apparent by the letterhead or the individual’s title.

--When in doubt, call RID to request clarification. RID is committed to providing scholarships/awards to qualified individuals. Please keep in mind you are applying for a competitive award from a professional organization. Your application package should reflect your professionalism. Applications with incomplete or unclear documentation are invalid and will not be considered for award.

--In the event you need further clarification of have questions, please contact Membership Services (membership@rid.org) at RID.
