RID Scholarships

Daniel H. Pokorny Memorial Scholarship Award

THE HISTORY:

Secretary/Treasurer of RID, Region IV representative, chaplain at Gallaudet College, associate professor of practical theology
at Concordia Seminary, husband, father, mentor, friend: these are only a few of the distinguishing aspects of Dan Pokorny's life. His accomplishments are far too many to list. The impact he made in the lives of others will echo into history. Dan was a gentleman to all, a friend to many and a strong supporter of the RID. When he died of cancer on May 30, 1990, he passed on to the future a philosophy of fair play, hard work and a respect to mankind.

In his honor, the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Board of Directors established a Daniel H. Pokorny Memorial Fund in
June, 1990. Since that time scholarships have been awarded to eligible members who wish to take the certification tests
but are unable to afford the testing fee.
